Senior Graduation Party
It’s time to start preparing for the graduation party for the class of 2025! We are seeking help with planning and implementing the party which usually occurs the night of graduation. Junior parents are typically tasked with this big project but any parents are welcome! Please contact Rebecca Trojan at rlwtrojan@yahoo.com or show up at 16 tons on December 3 at 5:30.

The Senior Graduation Party is not a school sponsored event. Organized by South parents in collabortation with Friends of South, a graduation party will be held on the night of graduation. The long-standing tradition provides a safe space for graduates to gather and celebrate for their final night as high school students.

Volunteer hours can count towards IHS, NHS, and 4J Honors Recognition requirements. Volunteering also makes a huge difference in our community! More information and interest form.

Career Center Current Events:

FAFSA completion begins with the creation of your FSA ID. College-bound seniors and one or both parents create their own separate FSA IDs. Use this tool to find out exactly who in your family should create an FSA ID, and create it now to avoid running into problems later when you’re hurrying to submit your FAFSA. This is doubly true for parents without social security numbers, who tend to encounter more system glitches. (No, the actual FAFSA is still not available. I expect it to be available beginning some time from 12/1/24-1/1/25.)

Aid for college-bound students: Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch can receive a fee reduction or waiver for SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests. They also can receive free additional score reports for some tests and can request a waiver or deferral of application fees at many colleges. Talk to your counselor or visit the College/Career Center to learn more.

Applying to OSU? SEHS journalism teacher, Bobbie Willis, has offered to share her insights as the parent of an OSU freshman. Reach out to her with your questions at willis_b@4j.lane.edu.

Checklist for the Junior Yr 2024-25 Wanna know what juniors should be doing to prepare for college/career? Look here!

NOW: The OSAC common scholarship application is open. College- (2-year, 4-year, vocational) bound seniors can use this application to apply to hundreds of different scholarships using a single application. Hint: This scholarship catalog should make it easier to search for scholarships since OSAC’s scholarship filter leaves something to be desired!

11/15: Beaver Open House. Full-day fall programs for high school and community
college students (and families) that provide an in-depth look at OSU and what they
have to offer. Take a student-led tour, check out the residence halls, learn about
academic majors and options, and meet some of their faculty and students. This is
just one of many in-person events to choose from.

11/16: Oregon Youth Ocean Summit. 10 am-4:30 pm at the University of Oregon’s Erb Memorial Union Ballroom. The purpose of the summit is to give students tools to become ocean conservationists and activists. Register.
