Helpful Forecasting Guide: Rising 9th Graders!
Below is a chart comparing the forecasting choices for Classic South students versus IHS South students for Language Arts, Social Studies, Health, and World Language, which are different based on which “school” you are officially in.

World Language
|
- Spanish, French, & Japanese
- Universities usually require the successful completion (C or above) of at least Level 2 of a World Language, but World Language is not required to graduate from South.
- You can start as late as Junior year to fulfill this requirement for universities.

- IHS students are required to take 3 years of World Language(s).
- All French Immersion students have pre-set World Language courses in each year from which they cannot deviate.
- Non-immersion students can choose from Spanish, French, or Japanese

Math, Science, PE, Fine/Applied Arts, and Other Subjects credit options are the same for all students (International High School and Classic South).
Math
- Nearly all 9th graders take Algebra I A & B for a full year of Math
- If you took Algebra I in 8th grade, you will be placed [later] into GeoStats A & B
Science
- All Freshmen take Physics A & B
PE
- All PE classes (except IOP) are available for 9th graders to take
- A total of 1.0 credit (classes in two semesters) is needed to graduate
Performing Arts
- Tyros Choir, Concert Band, String Orchestra, Drama 1, Singer-Songwriting Workshop, Ukulele, and Intro to Musical Instruments are the introductory classes recommended for 9th graders. Freshmen can audition for the audition ensembles for Choir, Band, and Orchestra in the Spring.
Other Electives
- We recommend taking a variety of elective choices during your time in high school, especially early in your time at South. You may discover something that you didn’t know that you would love!
- Elective areas to explore: Art, News & Broadcast Media, Child Care, Computers, Culinary, Stagecraft, AVID, and Leadership.
