Attention AP Students!

Advanced Placement Exam Registration!

Complete the registration process that starts below! Enroll all your AP courses and exams in the College Board's MyAP system with the Join Codes...

ATTENTION: Students and guardians should complete this registration/enrollment together. This is a two step process and both steps MUST be completed to access the AP Classroom resources and/or order AP Exams. The entire process (both steps) can be completed in a single sitting in approximately 10 minutes.

1. Complete the registration process that starts below.
2. Enroll all your AP courses and exams in the College Board's MyAP system with the join Codes you will receive at the end of this registration process.

Students taking AP courses/exams at South Eugene High school must enroll/register here by 11:59 PM, March 5, 2027. There is no cost for enrolling in AP courses, but the 2027 AP Exams cost $96 per exam, and $9 for those who completed a 4j Eugene Income Based Eligibility Survey found here http://tinyurl.com/yc9zp4nm. These amounts are based on registering before the October 31st deadline, with additional late fees after October 31st. More information can be found here: https://sehs.4j.lane.edu/32980_2.

Counseling Corner

SOUTH EUGENE COUNSELING CORNER

Greetings from South Counseling! Just a reminder to all that drop-ins and appointments are available for students daily; visit our Counseling page under the Academics tab on South’s website for details.

Watch next week’s newsletter for critical information about Advanced Placement testing. Any student who is taking an AP class or who wishes to take an AP test next spring must register and remit payment in October! Next week we will post that portal here, so stay tuned… AP deadlines are firm and participating students don’t want to miss this opportunity for college credit.

CLUB AXE
Club Axe is a twice-weekly after school tutoring session that meets on Mondays and Thursdays in the SEHS Library from 3:30-4:30. Everyone is invited to come get some work done with support from teachers and peer tutors. Plus, there are snacks!

SEHS Peer Mediation Program

At South, there are many avenues for students in managing and resolving conflicts that naturally arise during their time as students here. Teachers and counselors are often the first adults students turn to when needing help with a conflict they struggle to manage on their own. Peer Mediation is a different option, if a student feels more comfortable working with someone their own age or if a situation feels like it doesn't rise to the seriousness of needing adult intervention. The Peer Mediation Request form is widely available to students who might choose this path as a first step in resolving a conflict. Students can fill out the form at any time and a Peer Mediator will contact them to assist. Peer Mediators are trained in understanding the roots of conflict and managing difficult conversations. They also meet regularly under the guidance of staff advisors Jason Floyd, our Equity Manager, and Melanie Namkoong, our International High School Secretary – honing their skills and discussing challenging situations they are dealing with. Peer Mediators maintain strict confidentiality and are committed to making South a place where students learn to resolve their own conflicts. For further information, contact floyd_j@4j.lane.edu or namkoong_m@4j.lane.edu.

Academic Dates of Importance

PSAT/SAT: The deadline has now passed for students to sign up for the PSAT and SAT exams which will be held at South on October 23th. Attendance on that half day is still mandatory; juniors and seniors who have not opted in to take these tests will attend teacher resource times providing opportunities to meet with their teachers and receive additional assistance in classes as needed.

Senior Interview: All SEHS seniors must schedule and attend a senior interview before the end of semester one. Counselors will review transcripts, senior year courses, graduation plan, and the array of post high school options. If students intend to apply to college their counselor will also walk them through the application process during this meeting. All Seniors should schedule this appointment on the SEHS Counseling page under the ACADEMICS tab.

Work Credit: Are you working during the school year? If you are a junior or senior and you have a job in the community, please connect with your counselor to learn about how to earn Other Subject elective credit. You need to work a minimum of 65 hours this semester to earn the .5 credit.

Have a wonderful weekend, South Eugene!

COLLEGE APPLICATION AND FINANCIAL AID STUFF:

  • Purple Packet: For all South seniors applying to 4-year colleges. Step-by-step instructions for everything from requesting letters of recommendation to connecting your Common App and Xello accounts. Very important part of the college-application process.

  • Senior Interview: Step 1 in the Purple Packet. All seniors must complete a Senior Interview with their counselor this year. Seniors applying for early admission to college should schedule theirs immediately. This is a low-pressure visit to help you plan for next year, no matter where you’re headed (including non-college pathways).

  • 2027-28 FAFSA opened early! Recommended for all seniors who will or might attend college, community college, or trade school next year and who want financial aid or scholarships. This includes students in middle- and upper-income brackets. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals or eligible noncitizens. Parental status doesn’t matter. Who is My Parent(s) Contributor? (Quiz to help  students confirm which parent(s) financial information needs reported on the FAFSA)

  • FAFSA Real-Time Identity & Fraud Screening: To prevent identity theft, a real-time screening system runs in the background as you complete your FAFSA. If your FAFSA is flagged, you may be prompted to take a live photo of your government-issued photo ID before submitting the form. If you cannot or choose not to complete the online ID check immediately, you can still submit your FAFSA. However, you will be required to verify your identity directly with your college’s financial aid office before any federal aid can be released.
