Parent Email- Attendance & Grading- November 17

Dear South Eugene Students and Families,

Congratulations to students in South Eugene Theater who presented Radio Noir: Tales of Mystery and Suspense as their first performance of the season on Friday. Their innovation, adaptability, and talent are impressive, and the recording of their performance continues to be available at southeugenetheater.org. Enjoy!

As mentioned in eNews, this evening at 6:00 p.m., South is holding a Parent Education Session for any parents/guardians in grades 9-12 Confronting Pandemic Fatigue: Promoting Motivation, Mental Health, and Self Care.  All are welcome, and the webinar can be accessed here (Passcode 163994). We’ll discuss ways to support students, trends that staff are seeing, and supports available within 4J and in the community.

Attendance Information:  High Schools are making adjustments to how attendance is documented, and students should make certain that they access each of that day’s classes within Canvas to be counted as present. Students continue to be expected to access synchronous classes via Zoom as well as engaging in modules in Canvas.  On Advisory (Flex) Days, students should open up each of their courses in Canvas.  Most attendance reporting will be done through the Attendance Team in the main office and attendance will be viewable in StudentVUE/ParentVUE. Each week on Monday afternoon, an automated phone call will go out to parents with information about the previous week’s absences.

Grading Details: The last class day of Trimester 1 will be Thurs., December 10, and we encourage families to review student progress in Canvas by becoming an Observer in Canvas courses. Helpful information is linked here.

Students seeking to withdraw from a course must do so this week and will have a WD recorded on their transcript with no credit awarded. It is important to note that there is not a guarantee that the student will be able to take the same course in a later term this year because not all courses are offered each term.

Students with an Incomplete from Trimester 1 last year (2019-2020) have until the end of this trimester to resolve their Incomplete. After that point, unresolved Incompletes will be recorded as an ‘F’ on the student’s transcript.

Important Survey Details: Families are asked to complete an important survey to indicate the learning pathway they prefer for their student in Trimester 2.  Key information about available learning pathways is available here, and the deadline for completing the survey is this Sunday, Nov. 22.

Learning Pathway Change Request Form  (deadline Nov. 22)

Stay safe in these challenging times, and please feel free to reach out to us to let us know how we can be a support to your student and family.

Warm regards,

Carey Killen
