Dear Friends and Families of South:

I hope we all get to enjoy some hints of spring as we head through March. It has been such a pleasure to be at South this year, to get to know students and our community, and to be able to support outstanding instruction and programming at South. Each year our South Eugene community comes together to support our students through the annual Direct Donation Drive in collaboration with the Eugene Education Foundation. Students at South Eugene, past and present, truly have benefitted from the generosity of friends, family, and alumni as they pursue their dreams. We hope that you will be interested in participating in this year’s fundraising campaign.

The programming at SEHS reflects the desires of the community for high quality options for high school students preparing to be engaged and skilled adults in society. Amidst the challenges of public education funding in Oregon, the support from our South Eugene community has helped maintain and extend quality programming at South Eugene. Participation in our annual Direct Drive has been a large part of supporting the educational experience that families have come to expect and appreciate. With your continued financial support we will be able to ensure that SEHS students experience:

  • Opportunities in Music, Drama, World Languages, and Visual Arts
  • High interest Career and Technical Education programs
  • Counseling and Mental Health services to all students
  • A library staffed with an experienced Librarian
  • Academic classes with more reasonable class sizes
  • Intervention and support for struggling students

Each year our Parent Council coordinates with the Eugene Education Foundation to conduct the Direct Drive to raise funds for ensuring strong programs at South Eugene. We hope that all families can participate as their means allow, and we appreciate donations of any amount from $3, $30, $300, $3,000 and beyond. This year, our goal is $20,000, which will help to fund a Library Assistant and Career Center staff—positions that benefit all students. Funds also will go to enhancing other quality programming at South.Donations are 100% tax deductible and can be made by sending a check made out to Eugene Education Foundation, with SEHS in the memo line, in the enclosed envelope. You may also participate by visiting the online donation page at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/sehsdirectdrive where you can make a one-time donation or arrange to contribute in monthly or quarterly installments.

As you consider causes worthy of your contributions, we do hope you’ll consider a contribution to South Eugene as an investment that has positive impacts on our community for years to come. We know that these years of students’ lives are critical to their future success and wellbeing and that examples of philanthropy modeled by our community can have a lasting impact on shaping their future.

I hope you’ll join us to provide the best programs we can at SEHS by participating in our Direct Drive. Thank you for your support and generosity. Please contact me if you have questions. Go South!

Warm regards,
Carey Killen, D. Ed. Principal
