Senior Planning Timeline 2023-24

Senior Planning Timeline 2023-24

September

  • Check SEHS Work-in-Progress transcript to confirm graduation requirements will be completed (credits, incomplete grades).
  • Send transcripts from schools other than SEHS showing credits earned off campus to registrar, Melinda Shull, if you want them to count towards SEHS graduation.
  • If you haven’t already, complete Junior Project Course in Canvas.
  • Register to take or retake SAT or ACT in fall, if necessary.
  • September: First day to submit Oregon Promise application. For Oregon community-college-bound students.

October

  • October 1: First day to submit CSS Profile to access institutional (from the college) financial aid. Check 4-year college websites to see if your schools require it.
  • Finalize list of colleges or post-high school programs. (Attend college-rep visits, college fairs, and actual visits to colleges to help you decide. Finding a College that Fits, 34-minute video recorded in 2020)
  • Search websites of selected colleges to see what financial aid/scholarships each school offers, how to apply, and applicable deadlines.
  • Schedule and complete Senior Interview with your counselor during the first semester. Seniors applying for early-action or early-decision admission should schedule their interview for sooner rather than later.
  • Watch 5-minute video, College Application Guide, about navigating the 4-year-college application process at South, from SEHS counseling secretary, Leann Hollenbeak.
  • If 4-year-college bound, pick up the Purple Packet for 4-Year College Applications from Leann Hollenbeak and begin completing.
  • If needed for college or scholarship application, ask teacher(s) to write recommendations for you. Ask teacher(s) if they’d like you to complete the Teacher Letter of Recommendation survey in Naviance (Under your initials, in Surveys from Your School) and do so at least 10 school days before your application is due, if requested. For college recommendations, also make a recommendation request in Naviance (Colleges – Letters of Recommendation).
  • If counselor recommendation is needed for college or scholarship application, complete the Counselor Recommendation Survey in Naviance (Under your initials, in Surveys from Your School), and request recommendation from counseling secretary, Leann Hollenbeak (hollenbeak_l@4j.lane.edu), at least 10 school days before your application is due.
  • If you are a Classic South senior and have selected the Senior Experience as your Senior Project, complete it early. Ask your counselor if you have questions about it. (Other Senior Project options include CAS hours plus the extended essay for IHS students, the CTE Project for Classic South seniors, and the Outdoor Leadership CAM for Classic South seniors, all of which have their own timelines which are shared with students by the classroom teachers of the various projects.
