Back To Business- Aug. 26 & 27

All students are expected to attend Back to Business Days.

Students will have their photos taken for ID cards and school pictures, request a free LTD student bus pass, return school items, and get information on various support services provided by the school and district. Students new to South and already enrolled will be able to pick up technology. This includes our approximately 400 ninth-graders!

Schedule

Students, the schedule below is designed to help avoid long lines and support social distancing, and we ask that students do their best to come at the designated time.

Current Covid-19 protocols require everyone on campus to wear a mask when indoors, regardless of vaccination status.  People who are feeling ill should stay home. Only students will be entering the building for Back to Business. If a student cannot attend the assigned back-to-school day, they may attend on the alternate day or time.

What can I do to prepare for Back to Business Day?

We encourage families to complete the steps below before Back to Business Day to streamline the process. Where possible, we have tried to provide an online option, as well as an in-person option. We will be mailing home several of the forms and families who have not completed a form online are welcome to bring in the hardcopy they receive.

  1. Update Contact and Emergency Information
It is important that we are aware of any changes in your contact and emergency information. Please review and update the Student Profile that is arriving to you via regular mail. There will be an opportunity to turn in the Student Profile during Back to Business day on August 26 and 27 or the Main Office once school begins. If you have had an address change, and have a current mortgage statement or lease agreement, please include it as confirmation of your new address.
  2. Review the Fee Sheet (Yearbook, Parking Permit, School Support)
Please review the Fee Sheet that will be included in the mailing. Visit SchoolPay to pay any fees for the 2021-22 school year. If you have any questions about setting up a SchoolPay account, call 1-833-731-2600. To save time, please try to pay online before Back to Business day on August 26 and 27, as the line can be long otherwise. Students can pay by cash or check at Back to Business if needed.
  3. Request a Parking Permit
Student drivers must complete a Parking Application and pay for a permit via SchoolPay to obtain a parking permit. You can find the application online HERE or pick it up at Back to Business. Permits will be ready to pick up during the first week of school in the main office.
  4. Return Missing Books
If you have received an email indicating you have an outstanding balance with the school, please call 541-790-8053 or email summers@4j.lane.edu to make arrangements to return books. Students can pay any fines before or during the Back to Business Days on August 26 and 27.
  5. Review and Sign the Required Annual Notices and Forms
Schools are required to provide this information to families each year. The Required Annual Notices and Forms will be included in the mailing being sent in August. Please review it carefully and sign. There will be an opportunity to turn in signed forms during Back to Business day or the Main Office once school begins. If you wish to access the online versions, they are available HERE.
  6. Complete a Free and Reduced Meals Application
Please apply online (English and Spanish) HERE or you may pick up a paper application during Back to Business. A new application must be completed every year (one per household).
Free meals will be available to all students in 4J schools throughout the 2021–22 school year, thanks to the extension of a federal program, but students who meet income thresholds for free and reduced meals eligibility also can receive reduced fees for yearbook, AP/IB testing, and more, so it makes sense to complete the application. More than 40 percent of 4J students qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. The program is confidential and easy. Some state resources go to schools based on numbers of eligible students, so accurate information helps us direct funding to student supports where those are needed.
  7. Prepare to pick up technology if you’re new to South
Students in grades 9-12 who are new to South and have completed enrollment at South will be able to pick up a 4J laptop during Back to Business day on August 26 and 27. Students who still have a 4J iPad from middle school will need to turn in their iPad prior to receiving a 4J laptop. iPads can be turned in to South at Back to Business and we can return them to your 4J middle school.
